East of the Don is where I write about privacy, surveillance, AI, and the politics of data (AKA “It’s people”). I’m also interested in how people can disrupt the institutions that serve surveillance. I’m a privacy professional by day, a former journeyman machinist, and I don’t assume surveillance capitalism gets fixed with better consent forms.
Expect posts on lawful access and surveillance law, AI hype versus AI harm, and the economic decisions that get dressed up as technological inevitability. Because I live in Ontario, Canada, you can expect commentary on Toronto, Ontario, and Canadian politics from a left perspective. I hope that you find the posts useful or entertaining (ideally both).
